These gorgeous melanistic grey seals are very rare with dark pelage, a few have been spotted in the wild.

An adult was seen at Donna Nook Nature Reserve in Lincolnshire towards the end of November 2009 with her pup nearby, the pup was moulting to a dark pelage.
An injured seal was rescued in March 2009 by the Pieterburen Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre in Holland, after rehabilitation the pup was returned to the wild later that year. Also the National Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall have rescued, rehabilitated and released a few of these melanistic seals over the years.
