Winterton Seal Hospital (Save Our Seals)

Rescued Pup News Update - 13th September 2008

Bunny California and Scrat were released back into the wild in early August 2008. Robbie is still in the hospital and has now been moved to the large pool, Harry, our manager, is still not confident about releasing Robbie back into the wild and is considering moving him to a seal sanctuary in the UK. Bobby has been moved into the big barn where there are now a number of dry pens inside. Bobby has a good appetite and is the only vocal seal pup in the hospital - he's often noisy when being bathed or waiting for a meal! He is still quite small - much the same size as the younger seals that are in pens near to him - we expect that this was due to Bobby being premature. Jim and Bunny (left) will be released back into the wild shortly.
Three to four week old harbour (common) seal pup was separated from Winterton Ness Seal Colony by a crowd of visitors with dogs. It was chased and forced into the sea. Seen two days later, completely exhausted, by a visitor called Sue whilst she was jogging along the beach. Sue made the emergency call to the seal hospital and said she was lost as well! The rescue team Richard and Cheryl, with maps, found Somerton Holmes nearest to beach for rescuing Sue and baby seal, whom she named Charlie. Apart from a cut mouth, the seal was exhausted. Rehydration therapy and medication for wound given. He's OK. Temperature was 36.9 and weight 35 lbs.photo of Charlie was taken by Jill Jacobs
