Hospital (Save Our Seals) 12th December 2007 - Common Seal Rescue |

Harry got a call at 3pm on the 12th December 2007 about a seal in distress on the beach in Great Yarmouth. He picked up a rescue kit and drove with one of our volunteers, Teya, to have a look at the seal. When they arrived the first thing they had to do was ask a man and a woman with dogs to keep them away from the seal. The seal looked quite bad with blood on it's flippers and bits of blood on it's fur. The seal did not put up much resistance as it was clearly quite weak.
The pup was taken straight back and put into pen, Harry mixed up some antibiotics and worming tablets quickly. As well as the obvious injuries, the pup had breathing problems and sounded very congested. The pup was tubed fed quickly and was then left to get some sleep as it looked very tired and still was not putting up much of a fight. |

Yama was expected to sleep through most of the next day, but gave us a scare when it haemorrhaged and started bleeding heavily during the night, Harry managed to stop the bleeding. Later the care team managed to get some fish soup into Yama. Yama will be given 24 hour care and treatment until we are confident that it can be allowed out into one of the larger pools. |
