Hospital (Save Our Seals) News Update - 8th December 2008 |
| Welcome to our news update for 8th December 2008, we have had a few seal pups arrive at our hospital here at Winterton during the last two weeks...Storm, a male grey seal pup, was rescued on 4th December 2008; he was 2 to 3 weeks old and weighed approximately 30 lbs. He was found at Pakefield near Lowestoft, exhausted, hungry and crying, having been swept down in a gale from the Farne Isles, approximately 200 miles away. Storm is now being fed special milk (which has the texture of a milkshake and is the closest we can get to its mother's milk) by tube twice a day at our hospital. Storm is the first pup of the season to be rescued by a solicitor and brought to us at the seal hospital by a doctor. If you would like to sponsor Storm or make a donation towards his care and rehabilitation, please see below for more details. | ![]() |

Harry, our centre's manager, says we should pronounce Dougie as "Doogie", which is a shortened version of the name Douglas, he was our first grey seal pup of the season, who was rescued on 24th November 2008. Dougie is still very skinny, he uses the black blanket as a bit of a comforter - he certainly looks as if he is missing his mum. Actually, it is the same with Storm. Storm cries a lot and when given a big blanket, he appears to be rooting around for a teat in the folds. |
![]() | Josh (left) is one of the first two harbour (common) seals which came here to the centre in the week before last. Josh had injury under his neck and on one flipper and has a fairly deep round wound on his back - which you can kind of see in the photo. Hopefully Josh shouldn't stay with us too long before he is released back into the wild. Tong (right), a grey seal pup, was picked up by a man and put into the back of his car whilst waiting for Jill, one of our rescue volunteers, to arrive on 6th December 2008. He is a lovely little grey seal with just a few tufts of white fur around his tail flippers with some minor injuries on his lower back; Tong is approximately three weeks old. More details to follow shortly. | ![]() |
