7th December 2007 - Checking a seal pup on local beach

The colony has slowly increased in size and we counted well over 100 seals on the beach during our daily check. The colony is made up of a mixture of nursing and pregnant females with a growing numbers of seal pups. A selection of males can be seen off shore, plus there are few dominant males, spread out through the colony protecting their group of females from other adult male seals. Seal Pup
This pup, which approximately was 2.5 - 3 weeks old, was found amongst the dunes, it had managed to make it's way onto one of the paths used by people keen to view the colony from a distance, without disturbing the seals. The seal pup will be monitored over the next few days to make sure it gets back onto the beach.
