Lo'em, a harbour/common seal pup, was born on 1st August 2009, but abandoned by her mum soon after giving birth. The pup was rescued by Harry, the Manager of the Winterton Seal Hospital, on 2nd August 2009 from the beach at Winterton Ness. Lo'em was found to weigh only 11lbs with a temperature of 40.3°, when she was assessed on arrival at the seal hospital; she had stomach sickness with blood from severely ulcerated mouth and a hole in the roof of the mouth. Ice packs and fans were used to reduce Lo'em's temperature down to 36.5°. This is one of the smallest harbour seals we have had at the hospital (apart from a premature born pup) weighing just 11lbs.
