Winterton Seal Hospital (Save Our Seals)

Caylie (Cally) was rescued on 23rd December 2009

Cally Caylie (Cally), a grey seal pup, was 2 – 3 days old when rescued and weighed only 24lbs on 23rd December 2009. When found at Caister by our rescue team, he had a full white baby coat.

Our volunteer rescue team was launched after a member of the public found him washed up on the beach after a bad storm had washed him from his mother.

When our rescue team reached him, his eyes were full of sand and he was barely alive with a high temperature and frozen fur.
Upon arrival at the Winterton Seal Hospital, Caylie was put under a heat lamp and fed a special mixture of multi milk 4 times in 24 hours. Later his temperature dropped dangerously low and it was noticed that he had brain damage while monitoring him during the night. More heaters were brought in to keep Caylie’s temperature up; this went on for nearly two weeks. Caylie was tube feed not only through the day but during the night too by Harry and had to have his heart massaged many times to keep him from passing away. He has survived and is now swimming in a pool and catching his own fish, he now currently weighs 38lbs.
